What has happened this month?
Investments
A quiet month with the portfolio despite forums and group discussing forth and back whether the market is going up and down from now on. It’s tricky not to be intrigued and interested in finding the ‘golden nuggets’ and seemingly well-backup reasons for numerous personal theories being the ultimate future stock market prediction.
This 2020 spring historical drop in the market has been dreadful in many other ways than financial, don’t get me wrong, but good in the sense as us investors have found out how we personally react to such a unique event.
Staying the course and being calm while seeing the monthly change of your portfolio in March drop +23% sure hardens you up for next time around. I’ve found a calming effect in leaning up against the statistics and reminding yourself – No one can time the market perfect. Based on historical data investing consistently every month no matter the current fluctuations will get you the best returns.
A fellow FIRE blogger even shared an article where two Instagram influencers beat two professional traders in a competition trying to show the difference between passive and actively managed portfolios. Woops !
Take a look at the 3-month change of the portfolio reaching a whopping 26%. A bumpy ride to say the least here in spring 2020.
Job
It’s summer and schools are closed for this year. This means no work from last week. This has given extra time to work on the Tiny House.
The plans are very exciting for 1. August where we’re moving to another part of the country (Yes! the Tiny House is coming with us of course) and with a group of young teachers starting a brand new Folk High School / Højskole where I’ll be teaching in the subject ‘Outdoors’. The school has also shown an interest in starting a watersport line in the future! Now that’s something to work towards.
Love it! How many people can say they’ve started a Folk High School from the very beginning? Not a lot, I can tell you.
I’ve been in touch with kite surfing schools already and have a possible job with hours and we’re discussing a future business idea.
It will be a new beginning in an area we know nothing about. This is why we built the Tiny House; So we can say ‘YES’ with short notice and grab the rare opportunities that come your way.
Due to this adventure in the coming month I’ve set aside 1900 dkk 254 € for safety which if not used will be whacked into indexes later on.
Tiny House Update
We are loving living in the Tiny House! It, of course, takes getting used to. For example, 29 degrees outside during the day takes experimenting with the settings of windows for optimal temperature, light and fresh air up in the sleeping loft at night 😀 .
Built a sofa this month, a foldable kitchen table, painted the whole house, put in edges around the reused floor, a bit of sewing.
Great progress!
Updates on the build from start to finish will be shared on the Facebook page.
Danish readers can join the group ‘Det Lille Potentiale, Tiny House’.
Focus next month
- Connect the water to the Tiny House.
- Sew the blue cushions for the sofa.
- Get the house roof edge ready for gutter for water collection.
- Get a tow bar installed on the car for the possibility of using a trailer.
